Proof was penned by American playwright David Auburn in 2000 and went on to win both the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play. Proof is a passionate and intelligent story about fathers and daughters, the nature of genius, and the power of love.

Synopsis: Catherine mourns her father's passing and the years she gave up as Robert's caretaker. As one of his students, Hal, searches desperately through his endless reams of notes, Claire arrives to help Catherine with settling their father's legacy and to convince her sister to get back on track. A mystery presents itself, emotions and tempers are tested, and Catherine is forced to face the question: How much of her father's madness - or genius - will she inherit?

Directed by: Matt Upton
Audition dates: Saturday and Sunday 11/18/17-11/19/17 2pm to 4pm
Show Dates: January 18th - 21st, 2018
Venue: Shoals Theatre

Rehearsals: 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm nightly, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Additional rehearsal nights closer to performance run. Schedule will remain flexible on dates surrounding holidays.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from selections of the script.

Available Roles (all ages flexible within reasonable portrayal):

Catherine (age 25) - A young woman who inherited much of her father's mathematical genius, and, she fears, his "instability" as well; she gave up her life and schooling to take care of her father.
Robert (age 50-60) - A mathematician renowned for groundbreaking work in his youth, but whose later years were plagued by delusional mental illness.
Hal (age 25-30) - One of Robert's last Ph.D. students during the one year his mentor's illness went into remission, intent on finding some small measure of clarity in Robert's incoherent notes.
Claire (age 30-40) - Catherine's older sister, a practical and business-minded woman who left Robert and Catherine behind to make a new life for herself in New York City.
